Is it Gaited? Is it a Draft Horse? What is a Morgan?

The American Morgan Horse Association  (http://www.morganhorse.com) is the governing body of the Morgan Horse. The Morgan is undeniably the FIRST breed originated in the United States. A music teacher was given a horse as barter for payment in the 1700's thinking it was just a normal horse. However, this individual, FIGURE, proved to be outstanding in every use imaginable use - saddle, carriage, trotting speed and strength. And even more important, as a stallion, he passed on these traits to all of his progency.

Every Morgan horse in America can be traced back to this individual. In that era, a breeding stallion was referenced by his owner's name. Thus FIGURE came to be known as Justin MORGAN.

Morgan bloodlines can be found in the pedigrees of Quarter Horses and many other popular breeds today. They are easily trained,  versatile and beautiful.  They excel at reining, dressage, Pleasure, Hunt and Carriage.  Originally bred to be an average of 14'3", they are not a draft horse. In fact, their unique versatility allows them to excel in the elegance of Park Saddle and Park Harness as well as competitive trail riding.

Wonderful family horses with personality, exceptional show horses and honest working horses - that's a Morgan.

Please visit the American Horse Association to view the Morgan Standard, Rules and breed information. In Eastern Oklahoma, we have a wonderful selection of Morgan breeders, trainers and owners.  Please contact MHAO or AMHA with any questions or comments.
